Uncle Noel Egan

From: "NAYLER, Daryl" <Daryl.NAYLER@austin.org.au>Subject: Uncle Noel Egan - Austin HospitalDate: Wed, 14 Jun 2006 09:30:51 +1000>

Dear All. It is with sincere regret, the family of Uncle Noel Egan have requested that I inform the community of his passing today - Wednesday June 14th. It is with deep respect and sincere sadness that I have the duty to inform of this. The family would ask the community to share their grief and reflect a final farewell for a loved one who has passed away. We are all united not only in our desire to pay our respects to Uncle Noel, but rather in our need to do so.For such was his extraordinary appeal and nobility of this genuine, sincere man. With deep regret, Daryl Nayler, Aboriginal Health Development Officer, Austin Health, Ngarra Jarra Aboriginal Program, on behalf of the family, Linda, Phyllis, Jeff, Tammy, John, Aunty Barbara, Aunty Avis, Aunty Isabelle, Uncle Macca, Uncle Boy, Uncle Charlie. NB: Please distribute through the Koori grapevine.

Asking a Favor.

Hi All,
I write to ask a favor.
I am very concerned about the popular media representation of
Indigenous peoples and issues. The negativity presented by the
popular press both print and electronic perpetuates myths and
untruths about Indigenous Australia and this naturally facilitates a
growth in discrimination.
We all know of Indigenous heroes, both historically and
contemporarily. I want to propose that we all take five or six
minutes to email positive Indigenous stories to one television show.
I want you to get your friends and family to do the same. I want all
of us to do it over the next week. Whether it is a story of Michael
Long, Catherine Freeman or an unknown Indigenous hero. It could be
someone who has fostered lots of kids. It might be someone who has
educated lots of people. It might be one of your elders.
Please pass this email along and try to get others to do the same.
I suggest that we email Sunrise, the early morning show. The website
address is http://seven.com.au/sunrise/form_contactus.
Think of your hero or heroine, write out their story and email it
in. It will only take five or six minutes.
There are many Indigenous heroes and heroines in Indigenous
Communities across Australia, whilst we may recognise them we need
broader Australia to see and hear them.
